County Highway — On online archive for an offline newspaper.

With a retro-modern aesthetic and fiercely analog spirit, County Highway is a printed quarterly for contemporary American stories. When the editors requested an online store and archive, we built them a website reminiscent of a microfiche reader.

Design

Designed by New York’s Pentagram, County Highway has a unique aesthetic that relies on different typefaces and headline hierarchies. We adapted their print design to the web and designed a storefront for subscriptions as well as a unique online archive to browse the paper archive.

Development

Our custom CMS is built around County Highway’s unique editorial layout and logic, allowing editors to add up to five headlines per article, create gated and free content, as well as build an archive over time. The online store uses Stripe integration of robust e-commerce functionality and recurring subscriptions.
